LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A 32-year-old Meridian man is in jail, accused of breaking into two Laurel businesses early Wednesday morning.

Laurel Police arrested Claude Christopher Johnson and have charged him with three counts of burglary.

Police said Johnson allegedly first broke into the Extreme Outfitter on Sandy Lane near Highway 15 shortly after midnight and stole 11 rifles. They say he later allegedly went across the street to Pawn and Trade and stole several laptops.

Laurel police responded to an alarm at the pawn shop, searched the building and found the suspect hiding in the bathroom. Upon further investigation, police were led by Johnson to a residence where the 11 rifles were found.

In all, over $20,000 in merchandise was recovered.

Johnson is being held in the Jones County Detention Center pending his initial appearance.
