177th changes command

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - The 177th Armored Brigade at Camp Shelby held its traditional change of command ceremony Friday. 

Soldiers and some civilians gathered at Camp Shelby to say goodbyes to Colonel J.K. Chesney. Colonel Chesney has served as the commander of the 177th Armored Brigade at Camp Shelby for two years. Today, he turned over command to Col. William Prior.

Prior said, "I am trilled to be here. It is a great opportunity, as a Army Officer to command an organization of this type is the kind of thing you hope for, and it's an important mission here at Camp Shelby and a great place to live and train. "

Prior is a career Army Officer, who has served for 22 years. He has been deployed to combat on three different occasions. 

Prior recently returned from Iraq about a year ago. Prior said he brings experience and leadership to the job.

"We will help to the best of our ability, national guard and other forces that come through here to camp shelby train for combat so they can contribute to the up most to our efforts in Iraq and across the the world."

Prior and his wife have three children. The oldest is at the United States Military Academy at West Point and their two daughters will be attending school in Oak Grove.
