COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - Columbia native Reed Houston was sworn in as Mayor of Columbia on Tuesday, beginning his first term.
Houston has been quick to take action. After two board meetings, Houston and the Columbia Board of Alderman have decided to spend 90 days evaluating the positions of all city officials.
While the evaluation process itself is a work in progress, Houston believes every person deserves a fair evaluation before any decisions are made regarding necessary changes in city personnell.
"What the board decided was we have three new alderman and myself, and we didn't feel that we could make a proper evaluation of employees in the first two or three weeks of our administration, the new administration," he said.
Houston plans to spend his initial time in office focusing on the needs of the Columbia Police Department in order to make the city a safer place to live.
