JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Sheriff's Deputys' cars in Jones County will soon receive some new equipment.
The Jones County Board of Supervisors gave Sheriff Alex Hodge the ok to purchase video surveillance equipment Tuesday.
The equipment will cost about $5,000 per car. Hodge said the equipment will not cost local taxpayers anything.
"It's an outstanding effect to be able to provide the officers with additional safety tools to give them some protection as well as the county some protection from liability," said Hodge. "It comes from our drug enforcement effects. Last year, we seized almost $700,000 in drug money."
The equipment should be installed in all 21 units within 2 to 3 weeks.
