Petal woman indicted for fraud

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A 36-year-old Petal woman has been indicted by the Forrest County Grand Jury on dozens of charges of filing false income tax returns.

Susan Renee Blackwell was indicted on 19 counts of making fraudulent statements, 19 counts of computer fraud, 16 counts of false impersonation, and 9 counts of forgery.

The indictments allege Blackwell obtained money from the state tax commission illegally by altering wages and withholding amounts and using the names and social security numbers of others, living and dead, to receive tax returns.

In all, tax officials said Blackwell sought nearly $50,000 in tax refunds.
