Teenager's bond set in shooting case

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Bond has been set for a Hattiesburg teenager charged with aggravated assault after police said he shot another juvenile in the head.

Anthony Crosby, 16, was charged as an adult and made his initial appearance Friday in justice court before Judge Jolly Matthews who set his bond at $500,000 and appointed him a public defender.

Crosby was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly shot a female juvenile in the head with a handgun on Arledge Street. The unidentified victim is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Crosby's aggravated assault charge could be upgraded to murder, depending on the survival of the victim.

"I got remorse for it man; it was an accident," said Crosby. "She was trying to get the gun from me, because she thought I was fixing to go do something stupid, and it fired off when she tried to get it from me."

Crosby also has a previous conviction of felony shoplifting from 2007 and is still serving six months probation for the crime.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
