HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Gas price are once again climbing in the Pine Belt and across the country.
Oil prices hit an eight-month high of $68 a barrel, up from $38 earlier this year when the average price of a gallon of gas had fallen to $1.79.
Prices in some areas of the country have reached $3 a gallon. One year ago, the average price of a gallon of gas was around $4.
In the Pine Belt, prices range from $2.29 to $2.43.
On June 1, distributors switched from winter fuel to summer fuel, which is slightly more expensive.
Analysts say as more people travel during the summer season, demand will spike along with prices.
