Mayor, alderman races still to be decided in Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG (WDAM) - The secretary of state's office or a coin toss may have to decide an alderman's race in Heidelberg.

After Tuesday's general election, Carolyn McFarland and Curtis Morgan both received 33 votes in the Ward 2 alderman race.  We are told there are no more ballots to be counted.  Election officials are contacting the Secretary of State's office to determine how to break the tie.  In Heidleberg's mayor's race, Juan Barnett received 249 votes to Antroy Gavin's 86.

The votes are in on Sumrall's alderman-at-large race.  Jerry Weatherford beat his two opponents. Final totals show Weatherford with 250 votes, Heath Sumrall with 128 and Toxie McGree with 36.

And in Lumberton, election officials will start counting about 30 affidavit ballots to determine who will be the next mayor.  Alderman Miriam Holder holds a slim one vote lead over Al Young following Tuesday's general election. Mayor Larry Strahan finshed a distance third; the 30 affidavit ballots would not be enough for Strahan to win.
