Repairs could exceed $1 million

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel school officials are still investigating how a fire started at Jones Middle School.

Superintendent Glenn McGee said the fire chief and the state fire marshall have not found anything suspicious about the Saturday morning blaze.

Mcgee said the south end of the building is most likely a total loss.

An inspection Tuesday will determine the origin of the flames. When a school or church is burned, authorities must wait until the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms inspects the scene before beginning an investigation.

Insurance adjusters said Monday the damage could exceed $1 million.
