Stolen truck pulled from river

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Jones County officials said a truck found in the Leaf river Tuesday was apparently stolen.

Authorities found a red Ford F-250 reported stolen out of Jackson submerged in the river off Hwy 588, south of Sand Hill.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said the truck may be connected to a stolen vehicle ring authorities broke up recently.

A track hoe was brought in to clear a path to the river and pull the truck out. Divers were brought in to make sure no one had been trapped inside.

The Game and Fish, Sheriff's Department, Boggy Volunteer Fire Department, EOC and others participated in the effort.

Authorities discovered the steering wheel had been tied before the truck was pushed into the river.

An investigation is ongoing.
