ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - On Friday morning, Jones County Junior College's class of 2009 celebrated a milestone.

About 700 students graduated from the college with a large portion of them headed to a four-year university in the fall.

"I never thought this day would come but at the same my two years at JCJC have passed by so quickly and I've enjoyed every single second of it," said Sarah Wheeler, who graduated at the ceremony.

Another graduate with the class of 2009, Jeff Lott,  is with the 155th brigade combat team. He'll be headed back to Iraq this summer. For him it was important to earn his degree from Jones.

"In fact my entire family except for my son has graduated from Jones and he's 8-years-old and, he needs to know that his father leads from the front and he has to come down and graduate himself."

Other schools, including Southern Miss, held commencement ceremonies this month. Nearly 1,500 students graduated from USM this year.
