GRETNA, LA (WDAM) - A father and son from Forrest County have pleaded not guilty to charges that they stole over a $500,000 from the city of Kenner, La.
Don and Jim Durham were arraigned in the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna, La., Wednesday on theft charges.
The two owners of Durham Auction House in south Forrest County, are accused of keeping the proceeds from a 2008 auction they conducted for the city of Kenner.
The auction reportedly netted $531,000, with $300,000 belonging to the federal government for the sale of surplus FEMA trailers.
A pre-trial hearing has been set for July 13.
The Durhams also face legal action in Jackson and Hattiesburg.
In all, they reportedly owe creditors $7 million and have filed chapter 7 bankruptcy in an effort to pay off their debts.
