Hattiesburg Police respond to armed robbery

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred this morning at a convenience store in Hattiesburg.

Around 9:40 a.m., Hattiesburg police responded to a Jr. Food Mart located in the 5600 block of Highway 49 after reports of an armed robbery.

Officials said a black male wearing a white tank top T-shirt and blue jean shorts and another black male wearing a red polo shirt entered the convenience store and displayed a black handgun. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of money and entered a small, white passenger car waiting outside.

The vehicle left the scene traveling east on Helveston Road.

The suspect appeared to be in his late teens to early 20s, about 5 foot 9 inches in height and weighing around 210 pounds, according to an eyewitness.

Police said the escape vehicle was occupied by a black male wearing a red, polo type shirt. The vehicle had a long, dark scratch above the driver’s side door handle.

Anyone with any information about this incident or the suspects involved is asked to report their information to Metro Crime Stoppers at 601.582.7867.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
