HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Longtime Southern Miss baseball coach Corky Palmer announced his retirement today, effective at the end of the season.
The 55-year-old Palmer is in his 12th season as head coach for the Golden Eagles.
Palmer, who played four years at Southern Miss in the 1970s, has been a head baseball coach at the high school, junior college, and college ranks for 28 years.
Palmer's Southern Miss teams have made six straight NCAA regional appearances, and seven in the last 11 years.
Palmer's formal retirement announcement is expected at 3:00 today and WDAM will carry the news conference live as well as stream it live on our Web site.
