BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) - An autopsy has revealed an elderly Jeff Davis County couple found dead in their home Saturday morning was strangled to death.
The bodies of Eugene Redd, 74, and Cherilene Redd, 70, were found in their kitchen Saturday morning by a neighbor.
Family members had tried to get in touch with the couple, both of whom were disabled and home bound, but the phone line was busy.
According to Coroner Greg Blackwell, the couple died of strangulation, and an electrical cord was still around Cherilene's neck.
The autopsy indicated the couple may have been killed sometime Friday afternoon.
The couple's 1997 Chevrolet Lumina was found abandoned and burning Sunday in rural Jackson County.
Witnesses said a suspect was seen near the car, he was described as a black male, about 6 foot 1 inches tall with a slender build.
Authorities are not releasing any details about the crime or whether they are looking for one or more suspects.
