Family of slain elderly couple seeks answers

BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) - Sheila McLendon and her family have many unanswered questions.

Her parents, Eugene Redd, 72, and Cheriline Redd, 70, were found dead in their home Saturday morning.

Jeff Davis County Coroner Greg Blackwell ruled their deaths as the result of homicidal violence.

"I want to know the truth," said McLendon. "I want to know who did it; I want to know why they did it, and I want justice done."

The family was unable to reach the couple Saturday morning because the couple's phone line was busy. They sent a neighbor to their home on Ridegeland Road who discovered the bodies.

The couple's car was stolen and found burned a day later in Jackson County. Authorities said a witness claimed to have seen someone standing near the car as it burned.

Family members said they just want this case solved, but even that will not be enough to make sense of the tragedy.

"We miss our parents very much," said McLendon. "We want to find out. We need some answers. We need closure."
