Lamar County man found guilty of arson in attempt to conceal evidence

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Lamar County man already in prison for manslaughtermay serve additional time after being convicted of arson in an attempt to hide his earlier crime.

A Pearl River County jury found Charles Anderson guilty Thursday of first degree arson.

Anderson is serving 20 years for the 2003 shotgun death of Shelton Smith. However, that earlier jury could not reach a verdict on the arson charges.

Prosecutors said Anderson shot Smith and then burned down his house to hide the crime.

Today, a jury agreed Judge R.I. Pritchard will sentence Anderson May 12 in Marion County. He could receive another 20 years in prison.
