OVETT, MS (WDAM) - The recent rape of a 58-year-old woman in Ovett has many wondering whether a serial rapist is roaming Jones County."As we look at the crimes that have been committed over the past several years of this type, there is somewhat of a pattern within certain times of the year," said Sheriff Alex Hodge. "So, that leads us to believe that it could be some one coming in here for seasonal work."Hodge added, "We do believe, based on what we know, that it is probably not somebody that stays here, but comes into our county. We'll know more when we get the DNA back."
Hodge encourages families and neighbors to always check on the elderly and neighbors who live alone.
During the height of the past investigation, several Jones County businesses pledged up to $60,000 in reward money to help bring a suspect into custody.
Hodge said those funds have expired,, but his department is working several businesses and agencies to generate reward funds.
