Laurel man pleads guilty to manslaughter

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A year to the day after allegedly killing a Laurel man, a 21-year-old suspect pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Carl Holder of Laurel changed his plea before Circuit Judge Billy Joe Landrum to guilty Monday.

Holder, along with four other teens, allegedly broke into a home on Hoy Drive in March 2008.

Holder admitted to burglarizing the home, but claims as he leaving his gun accidentally went off and struck Frederico Ramirez Perez, who died later that day.

Prosecutors offered holder a plea deal - 20 years on manslaughter plus 20 years for burglary.
