Traffic on Highway 49 in south Forrest County was re-routed Friday night, as crews cleaned up gasoline from an 18-wheeler that was involved in an accident with an underaged driver. Firefighters and a hazardous materials team drained fuel from a gasoline truck that overturned in a median after it collided with a car driven by a 14-year-old.
The wreck happened at the intersection of McCardle Road about 2:30 Friday afternoon. The teen driver was injured, but not initially transported to the hospital.
An 18-year-old passenger was air-lifted to a medical facility with serious injuries. At last report, she was listed in critical condition.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the clean-up could take several hours.
