    After a state championship season, coach Chuck Robertson is leaving the Taylorsville football program to take a position as the Men’s Housing Director at Jones County Junior College. The Tartars finished 15-1 in 2017, capturing the class 2A state title with a 41-26 win over Winona – their sixth championship in school history. Robertson was 19-8 in two seasons with Taylorsville High School.

    Pearl River Community College split its two-game series with Mississippi Delta on Friday, but the Wildcats remain atop the MACJC standings. PRCC beat the Trojans 12-4 in eight innings in game one of the doubleheader but fell 4-3 in the second game. The Wildcats (27-7) remain one game ahead of Jones County in the conference standings with an MACJC record of 13-3.

    After a stellar high school football and baseball career at Columbia High, Bryson Medious was ecstatic when he signed his letter of intent to play baseball for Jones County Junior College in January 2015.     It took all 32 minutes but when the final buzzer sounded, the Oak Grove girls basketball team walked off Williams Assembly Center court with a 50-46 win over Tupelo. The Lady Warriors held a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter before the Lady Wave stormed back, pulling within one-point of Oak Grove in the final minute.

However, the more highly-contested matchup came at halftime of USM’s win. The Hattiesburg Fire Department battled the Hattiesburg Police Department on center-court of Reed-Green Coliseum. On Saturday, McKenzie will suit up for Jones County Junior College in its season-opener against Southwest Tennessee. McKenzie led the hard-hitting Columbia Academy Cougars with a school-record 12 home runs in his senior season.

The Lady Crusaders (18-2) beat Oklahoma Wesleyan 4-0 on Monday to advance the quarterfinals of this year’s national tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama.     Southern Miss baseball has a number of camps and showcases coming up this Thanksgiving. Head coach Scott Berry and the Golden Eagles host a fall showcase camp on November 19 for high school and junior college players. For the first time, USM will hold a Thanksgiving Kids camp from November 20-21. Several current Golden Eagles will be there to teach kids the fundamentals of hitting, base running and defense.
