WDAM "Stuff A Truck" Food Drives Asks Community to Give Generously to Support Neighbors in Need
As the economy continues to struggle, WDAM again asks for community support for the "Stuff a Truck" food drives set for Hattiesburg and Laurel. The first WDAM Food Drive will benefit Laurel’s Christian Food Mission that provides hot meals and food items to over 200 households in their community. Non- perishable food items can be dropped off at Honda of Laurel on Old Amy Road in Laurel on Wednesday, October 9th, 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The food items will be delivered to Christian Food Mission where volunteers will distribute to those in need throughout the community.
The Christian Food Mission feeds hundreds of elderly and handicapped residents in need. The Christian Food Mission was founded in 1985 being the first voluntary food group in Jones County. It is an interdenominational, evangelical ministry that builds a relationship with both its volunteers and clientele. Volunteers are responsible for feeding and distributing food five days a week and they have also helped in disaster relief. They firmly believe in feeding the needy while spreading the word of Christianity to others. Some volunteers are the only contact that some of the elderly have to depend on. Christian Food Mission relies heavily on churches, Christian volunteers, and anyone who wishes to volunteer time or money.
Last year "Stuff a Truck" was very successful with tons of food items donated. The food items came from individuals, businesses, school groups, church groups and local civic groups.
Laurel’s "Stuff A Truck" Food Drive is sponsored by Honda of Laurel, who proudly supports this effort.
The second event will benefit Hattiesburg’s Christian Services. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Mattress Express on 98W on Wednesday, October 16th from 7:30 a.m. - 6:00p.m. The food items will be delivered to Christian Services, where volunteers will use supplies for the Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels and several other services they provide to those in need in our community.
The Christian Services is a ministry filled with diverse men and women coming from different churches and organizations all sharing the passion in helping those in need. They show no prejudice for other beliefs and try to guide everyone to the truth. This ministry is a tax- exempt, nonprofit organization that is supported by contributions. It offers a positive environment to those who have been misled by reinforcing strong values and morals. They are involved with several programs such as low cost Angel Food boxes, a soup kitchen, other holiday events, and etc. that help to serve the community. On average 350- 600 hot meals are served 5 days each week. Christian Services believe that everything should be done with love, compassion and care.
Last year, the Hattiesburg "Stuff a Truck" event was a huge success, collecting truckloads of food items. Items donated to Christian Services Inc. were distributed throughout the various missions and ministries and helped to touch hundreds of lives.
