WDAM's 7.2 channel will now air ABC programming
The announcement was made by Paul McTear on May 30, president and CEO of Raycom Media, Inc., and John Rouse, senior vice president, Affiliate Relations, ABC Television Network.
As part of the new affiliation, WDAM 7.2 will broadcast local news coverage for the market three times a day leading into the network programs “Good Morning America,” “World News” and “Nightline.” The channel is targeted to launch in early June.
“We look forward to better serving the viewers and communities of in the Hattiesburg - Laurel area by providing them a local outlet for ABC programming,” said Raycom’s McTear. “WDAM 7.2 will combine ABC’s powerhouse entertainment and national news programming with our award-winning local news coverage.” McTear went on to say “This new affiliation will allow us to add additional local news and greater opportunities to have more local content for the Hattiesburg and Laurel viewers.”
“We are delighted to continue to offer NBC programming on our original digital channel 7.1 and now can add the complete ABC program line up on our second digital channel 7.2,” said WDAM Vice President and General Manager, Jim Cameron.

Raycom Media’s other ABC affiliates include WALB 10.2 in Albany, GA; KAIT Jonesboro, AR; KLTV Tyler, TX; KTRE, Lufkin, TX; WLOX Biloxi, MS; and WTVM Columbus, GA. With the addition of this new station, ABC will have a total of 242 affiliates.
Raycom Media owns/operates 46 television stations in 36 markets and 18 states, covering 12.6% of U.S. television households.
Are there any changes to NBC on WDAM?
No. This is a new additional ABC network channel that WDAM will broadcast on its second digital channel.
Is WDAM NBC changing any channel positions?
WDAM NBC is not moving from any of its Comcast channel slots, so you can continue to watch WDAM NBC on basic cable channel 4 and HD channel 432 in the Laurel - Hattiesburg area. WDAM NBC is not changing on DirecTV, or Dish Networks.
If I watch WDAM ABC over the air, how will the new channel appear on my TV?
It will appear as WDAM 7.2 - ABC. We will be replacing WDAM ThisTV programming with ABC programming. If you already receive WDAM ThisTV 7.2 over the air, you should have no problem getting WDAM ABC.
Will WDAM ABC be carried on cable and satellite?
WDAM ABC will replace ThisTV on Comcast channel 217 and later in the summer will move to Comcast basic cable channel 2 and HD channel 431. For all our viewers in WDAM’s outlying communities, check with your local Cable providers to see what channel they will assign to WDAM ABC. We have yet to hear from DirecTV, and Dish Networks about placement for WDAM ABC on their channel lineups, but feel sure that WDAM ABC will soon be available on these services.
Will WDAM News 7 also be on WDAM ABC?
Yes. News 7 Today and the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts will air live on both WDAM NBC and ABC, Monday thru Friday. On Saturdays, NEWS 7 Weekend News shows will air at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on both stations. On Sundays, News 7 Weekend will air at 10 p.m. on both stations.
Will there be any new news programs on WDAM ABC?
Yes. A new live newscast will air Monday-Friday at 6:30 p.m.This will air only on WDAM ABC. We are excited about presenting a new format for this new 6:30 p.m. show on WDAM ABC. Sheri Falk will anchor the newscast, and Nick Ortego will provide complete regional, local and coast conditions and forecasts from the News 7 Weather Center.
Will WDAM ABC have the same syndicated programs we see on WDAM NBC?
Yes, some of the same programs will air at different hours to offer an option to viewers. We anticipate a few other new shows only on WDAM ABC. We look forward to announcing our full programming WDAM ABC schedule soon.
