November Special Series - WDAM-TV 7-News, Weather, Sports-Hattiesburg, MS

It’s been said that, no matter where you go, every person has a story. Join Margaret Ann each Monday on News 7 Sunrise as she throws a dart at a map of the Pine Belt to select a town where she will find interesting stories. Who knows what she will see, or who she will talk to along the way. Tune in Tuesdays during News 7 Six O’clock Edition to see what she found when she went “darting off” to find the stories of your neighborhoods.
Have you ever wondered how certain towns or people were named? Mike McDaniel will research some of the strangest names in the Pine Belt (Hot Coffee, anyone?) to uncover the stories behind the names. Watch News 7 Six O’clock edition on Mondays starting on April 28 to find out What’s in a Name.
Take a road trip with Rachel Beech as she travels to some of the fun and exciting destinations within and surrounding the Pine Belt. She’ll bring you the scoop on places to go and things to do for your next road trip. Take A Road Trip will air Wednesdays starting April 30 during News 7 Six O’clock Edition.
Once again, Mississippi topped the national list ranking as one of the most obese states in the nation. In this three part series, Erin will look to medical experts as well as Mississippi culture and economy seeking to understand why Mississippi residents remain obese. Don’t miss this fascinating look at obesity in Mississippi, April 30-May 2 during News 7 at 6:30.
Despite strong feelings on both sides of the argument, the use of cannabis oil for medical purposes recently passed in the Mississippi Legislature. Tune in to Mississippi Medical Marijuana with Vanessa Pacheco during News 7 Six O’clock Edition May 7 through 9 for a look at how this law affects people in our state and where the future of medical marijuana in Mississippi seems to be heading.
In Mississippi, state prisons currently house 21, 505 inmates with a national recidivism rate of 67% within three years. In her three part series, Megan will learn from law enforcement officials about programs designed to decrease recidivism and will talk to inmates that are trying to break the cycle. She'll also hear the moving testimony of a man who beat the odds. Breaking the Cycle with Megan Hodge starts Wednesday May 14 during News 7 Six O’clock Edition.
