    Authorities are questioning a man after they say he accidentally shot himself in the hand after an attempted robbery went awry on Sunday.     After hosting the 7th Magnolia Amateur over the weekend, the Hattiesburg Country Club was ready to close up shop on Monday evening as the U.S. Amateur qualifying rounds came to a close. Then, naturally, the tournament went to extra holes. A dramatic ending to a full week of golf in Hattiesburg saw two golfers punch their tickets to the U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach.

    Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Lumberton Friday night.  The home is a one story brick house located at North 9th Street and 8th Avenue.  A firefighter on scene said that no one was home when the fire started, and one firefighter suffered minor burns to his hand. Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to US 98 near C&S Road to investigate the scene.  Upon arrival, troopers found a 2013 Chevrolet passenger vehicle driven by 40-year-old Kevin Allen.     Jarrett Hoffpauir spent the last five years coaching baseball at Delta Charter School in Ferriday, not far from his native Vidalia, Louisiana. The Southern Miss product returns to what he calls home in Hattiesburg to take over the PCS baseball program. What Hoffpauir learned from college coaches Corky Palmer and Scott Berry about baseball, and life, he hopes to pass on to the Bobcats. "[Palmer and Berry are] still very good friends of mine,” Hoffpauir said.

    Authorities are questioning a man after they say he accidentally shot himself in the hand after an attempted robbery went awry on Sunday. The Hattiesburg Police Department responded to a shooting at 5901 U.S. Highway 49 at Walmart just before 6 p.m.  Upon arrival, officers say witnesses on the scene saw a white male approaching people in the parking lot asking for money.
