    Just after midnight on July 21, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatality on Hwy 53 in Pearl River County. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene.  According to authorities, a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling north of Highway 53 when it crossed the center line and crashed head on with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driving in the southbound lane.     Around 8 p.m., emergency crews responded to a reignited house fire on Hwy. 11 in Lamar County. Fire investigator, George Stephens, says the initial fire happened before 3 a.m. on July 21.  When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. No one was at home at the time of the fire. Stephens says the family was thankful to be away when the fire sparked. Senior placekicker Parker Shaunfield was named the 2018 C-USA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year. Shaunfield converted the first 89 extra-point attempts of his career – which is a USM record. A 2017 semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, Shaunfield converted 17-of-20 field goal attempts last season (85 percent).

    A Columbia man was injured after the dump truck he was driving ran off the road and overturned on Monday. Mississippi Highway Patrolman Travis Luck said the driver was traveling west on Highway 590 when he ran off the road. Luck identified the driver as 80-year-old John Henry Watts.  Watts was transported to Covington County Hospital by ambulance and is in serious condition, according to Luck.  Copyright WDAM 2018.     Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Lumberton Friday night.  The home is a one story brick house located at North 9th Street and 8th Avenue.  A firefighter on scene said that no one was home when the fire started, and one firefighter suffered minor burns to his hand.     Two men are dead following a crash that occurred on July 3 just before 9:00 p.m. in Marion County. Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to US 98 near C&S Road to investigate the scene.  Upon arrival, troopers found a 2013 Chevrolet passenger vehicle driven by 40-year-old Kevin Allen.     A man charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Hattiesburg man had his bond set Monday.  Nicholas Faulkner, 30, had his bond set at $150,000 after being charged with the murder of 50-year-old Antonio Tatum on Friday night.  Hattiesburg police responded to a report of a stabbing on Broadway Drive.
