Heather Kirksey joined the News 7 sports team in May 2008 from WTOK in Meridian, where she anchored and reported sports for more than two years.
Her television career began in her hometown of Atlanta, when she worked at FSN South. During her two and a half years there, she did everything from intern to produce. Heather later left the cable ranks to try her hand at local news when she accepted a position with WXIA Television in Atlanta. She produced the 6 and 11 o'clock sports, as well as Atlanta Falcons programming the station aired. Heather departed for Meridian in December 2005 to become Assistant Sports Director at WTOK.The Georgia State University graduate spends a lot of her time cheering for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Thrashers, Indianapolis Colts and the University of Tennessee. She worked in the Thrashers media relations department from their expansion into the NHL in 1999 until she moved to Meridian.
Heather has earned several Associated Press awards for her work in sports journalism. Her feature on paralyzed North Forrest football player Justin McCray won the 2008 sports story of the year. When she's not hard at work covering the world of sports, Heather enjoys playing golf, tennis, traveling and spoiling her cocker spaniel, Dash.
