Northwest Rankin football coach, son arrested on drug charges

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Four people, including a high school athletics director and football coach, have been arrested on felony drug charges.

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshall Fisher said the arrests stem from a 10-month investigation of ecstasy (MDMA), LSD and marijuana distribution.

Agents arrested David Patrick Coates, 55, of Brandon; and his son, Joseph Patrick Coates, 21, of Oxford. The elder Coates is the athletics director and football coach at Northwest Rankin High School. Joseph Coates is a student at the University of Mississippi.

Another Ole Miss student, Mary Jane Miranda, 23, was also arrested; as was Marc Frank Davis, 54, of Greely, Colorado.

David Coates is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute; his son is charged with sale of MDMA and possession of narcotics. Both Miranda and Davis are charged with sale of MDMA.

Director Fisher said the investigation continues, and more arrests are expected.
