NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted a 26-year-old Hammond woman for fraud relating to applications she made to the American Red Cross for financial help after Hurricane Katrina.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says the agency made up to $1,565 available to those affected by the 2005 hurricanes on a 1-time basis. It is alleged, however, that Keyona Davis applied for and received a total of $3,495 in disaster funds on four occasions.
According to the indictment handed up Friday, Davis faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
