NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he's been offered a number of book contracts but turned them all down - until this year.
He said Thursday that he'd always thought that it was too early to write about himself, though he might do so after his playing days were over.
Calling from vacation in Hawaii, Brees said he changed his mind because he feels he now has a message that matters. It's that he, the Saints and New Orleans all came back stronger after adversity - and others can, too.
Brees says another reason is that he was asked by a Christian publishing house that shares his values.
Tyndale (TIN-dl) House Publishers announced Wednesday that a memoir by Brees would go on sale July 6, and that Brees will go on a national book tour.
