Childers voting 'no' on federal health care bill

Associated Press - March 18, 2010 6:14 PM ET

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Democratic Congressman Travis Childers of Mississippi says he will vote against a health care bill that's pending in Congress.

Childers made his announcement today (Thursday).

He says he's "deeply concerned" that the bill is too expensive. He also says it does not clearly prohibit federal funding of abortion.

Childers represents north Mississippi's 1st Congressional district. He's running for re-election this year.

State Republican Party Chairman Brad White says Childers took too long to announce a decision about the health care vote.
