BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Hurricane experts are meeting in Baton Rouge for a hurricane conference Tuesday and Wednesday.
The 2010 Central Gulf of Mexico Hurricane Conference is bringing up to 500 experts, including federal and state emergency managers, public safety personnel, forecasters and university officials.
The conference is being organized by Louisiana State University and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
1 of the big topics at the conference will be storm surge. Jamie Rhome, the storm surge team lead at NOAA's National Hurricane Center, will be on hand to talk as will other storm surge experts.
The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1.
