NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Almost five years after Hurricane Katrina damaged New Orleans' Algiers Regional Library, it's going to be torn down and a new library built.
The mayor's office says a $7.3 million new library is among five to be built at a total cost of more than $27 million.
The others are the Robert E. Smith Library on Canal Boulevard; New Orleans East Regional Library on Read Boulevard; the Norman Mayer Library on Foy St. and Nora Navra on St. Bernard.
The mayor's office says each has a single contract joining architect, engineer and contractor, so that one source is responsible for design, construction and scheduling. It says that allows greater cost control.
