NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A central Louisiana prosecutor refuses to discuss the contents of a sealed videotape shot by a former police officer charged in the death of a handcuffed man he repeatedly jolted with a stun gun.
But Winn Parish District Attorney R. Chris Nevils on Thursday disputed a report that a racial slur can be heard on the tape made by former Winnfield Police Officer Scott Nugent, who is awaiting a trial on manslaughter and malfeasance in office charges.
CNN reported that the video shows 21-year-old Baron Pikes handcuffed to a chair at a Winnfield police station and foaming at the mouth before he slumps onto the floor. Citing unnamed sources, CNN said voices off camera can be heard taunting Pikes, using racial slurs and asking Pikes if he was high on drugs.
