Texting may have led to fatal crash

Associated Press - December 27, 2009 11:34 AM ET

LELAND, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say texting while driving may have been the cause of a one-vehicle accident that killed a Leland man over the weekend.

Washington County Coroner Methel Johnson said 32-year-old David Paul Burchfield died Saturday from injuries sustained in the accident on U.S. 61.

Burchfield, a musician, was on his way to Vicksburg for a show when the accident occurred.

Johnson said a passenger injured an arm in the accident.

Johnson said the passenger mentioned that Burchfield was texting while driving when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip over.
