College Board to review transfer policy

Associated Press - December 8, 2009 11:44 AM ET

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state College Board is expected to review a policy in February that will more clearly identify community college classes that qualify for university credit.

A policy audit conducted this fall found formal articulation policies and agreements are in place, but in practice, arrangements are negotiated on an institution-by-institution basis.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that lawmakers have threatened to craft legislation in the upcoming session that would ease the transition from Mississippi's public 2-year schools to 4-year schools, if no policy is carried out.

Senate Education Committee Chairman Videt Carmichael of Meridian recently said he worries about community college transfers who have to retake courses when they arrive at the universities.
