JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County man suffered severe burns when a propane tank exploded in his home Tuesday night.
The explosion happened along Busby Road in the Johnson Community. The unidentified man was apparently changing the tank when it blew up, taking out one wall and a rear door.
The Johnson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, but nearby residents managed to put out the fire before they arrived.
The man suffered second-degree burns to the hands and face and inhalation burns.
He was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center and later to the burn unit at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
None of the other occupants were injured. Fire officials said the explosion was caused by a leaking valve.
