Tishomingo Co. jail project to require changes

Associated Press - December 1, 2009 9:04 AM ET

IUKA, Miss. (AP) - The new Tishomingo County Jail project has been delayed after all eight constructions bids came in significantly higher than the architect's estimate of $4.5 million to $5 million.

Board of Supervisors President Brandon Grissom said the plans may have to be changed to lower costs.

A new jail is required for the county to meet court-ordered space requirements per inmate inside the jail and outside for exercise, as well as visual oversight when supervising the inmates.

The proposed facility would house 150 inmates.

The lowest bid was submitted by CIG Contractors of Corinth, at $6.995 million. The high bid came from Harrell Contracting of Ridgeland, at $7.767 million.
