SEMINARY, MS (WDAM) - Some U.S. Navy personnel training at Camp Shelby for special duty in the Middle East were treated to a Thanksgiving dinner off-post, courtesy of a Covington County family. The Fred Baker family fed about one dozen members of Navy Group 8 at the Okatoma Resort in Seminary.
The Bakers bought the resort just a few months ago and it's the first year they've treated soldiers or sailors to a holiday dinner. The sailors were fed a traditional holiday meal.
They then spent their time walking the grounds of the resort, watching TV or just relaxing and talking to some of the guests that were also on hand for the meal.
Navy Group 8 will perform military police duties when they are deployed to Afghanistan. The unit has about 120 members.
Some of the sailors enjoying today's meal were from states such as Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin.
