SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A national award recognizes the VA hospital in Shreveport for work to get more of its registered and licensed practical nurses certified in nursing specialties.
The Times of Shreveport reports the award includes a $10,000 grant that will be used partly for tools to help more nurses at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center prepare for certification tests.
The center has more than 300 nurses. During the certification, more than 35 got specialty certifications, and almost 20 more have done so since the campaign ended.
Hospital spokeswoman Lois Anderson says that's a higher percentage than at any other VA hospital in the country.
Cathy Rick, VA chief nurse executive, presented the award Monday.
