Extreme Makeover: Home Edition arrives in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The crew for a popular home remodeling program has arrived in Hattiesburg at a home in Hattiesburg at 18th avenue and 2nd Terrace.

The person chosen by "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is Sherman Heathcock who is a National Guard soldier currently deployed overseas.

Producers say when Heathcock returns home he always works on his home, and two weeks ago he fell through the floor while constructing.

Heathcock is also a Forrest County deputy sheriff.

The crew will completely remodel his home, and actor Christian Slater will help.

Mayor Johnny DuPree made the initial announcement in early November that Ty Pennington and his crew of construction workers will arrive in Hattiesburg on December 3 and knock on the door of one lucky family.

Five families were under consideration. None were aware they were being considered.

Construction will begin on December 3, and the crew has seven days to complete the task.

Once built, Dupree said it will be the first green-certified house in Hattiesburg.
