PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - A mandatory dress code will take effect in August for Lamar County schools.
Students will be required to wear collared shirts with navy, black or khaki bottoms.
The Lamar County School Board President Kyle Hill tells the Hattiesburg American that the dress code prohibits blue jeans for middle and high school students, except on reward days.
Students will be required to tuck-in tops and wear belts. Boys may wear pants or shorts. Girls can wear pants, shorts, skirts, dresses or jumpers.
All students can select a collared shirt from the district's colors - white and gray - or their school's designated colors.
The exception is that students cannot wear black-on-black at Oak Grove High School. Hill says black-on-black can be associated with a certain culture or gang symbols.
