
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Miss football team falls 43-50 to #15 University of Houstin in a shootout.
The Cougars (7-1, 3-1 C-USA) drive the ball 77 yards in the final minute for a seven point lead against Larry Fedora's visiting Golden Eagles (5-4, 3-2) for the victory.
With 21 seconds left USM tried three plays from Houston's 45 yard line in hopes of overcoming a 43-50 deficit. Starting quarterback, Martevious Young, failed to complete a pass in the endzone to wide receiver, DeAndre Brown.
USM's offense recorded over 600 total yards against the Cougar's defense. Young had 334 total passing yards with three touchdowns including one rushing touchdown. All three touchdowns were caught by Gerald Baptiste. Damion Fletcher ran for 136 total yards and one touchdown.
Houston leads the nation in total offense and recorded 750 yards against the Eagles. Cougar's quarterback, Case Keenum, completed 44 passes for 559 total yards and five touchdowns.
