Associated Press - September 10, 2009 9:24 AM ET

RAYMOND, Miss. (AP) - Glen Ray Travis, a former president of the United Pentecostal Church in Mississippi, has died at the age of 71.

Family members said Travis died Monday at his home in Raymond after a four-month battle with cancer.

Services are 7 p.m. Friday at the Mississippi District United Pentecostal Church campgrounds in Raymond. Burial is 3 p.m. Saturday at the First United Pentecostal Church in McComb.

Travis started out as a roving evangelist, but settled down as a church pastor before he was 20 years old. He was a pastor at churches from Bogalusa, La., to Corinth.

Travis was elected district superintendent in Mississippi, an office he held from 1981 until his retirement in 2003.
