NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) - Clean-up is underway at the site of a fire that damaged some crude oil storage tanks in Perry County overnight. Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith says the fire happened at a storage facility owned by Denbury Oil Company, located near Forest Service Road 312 in New Augusta.

Smith says the fire damaged two, 20,000 gallon holding tanks.  He says 4 tanks are located at the site.

Smith says firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 10 p.m.  The fire was put out about 4 hours later.

No one was injured and the cause is under investigation.

"Everything was contained to the berm," Sheriff Smith said. "There was no spillage of any oil that I know of at this time that would affect the environment or anything like that. They (oil company crews) started clean-up operations this morning with pumpers, pumping the oil that was in the berm out and getting that all cleaned up, so they can better determine what they are doing," Smith said.

Sheriff Smith says his office is scheduled to meet with oil company officials next Tuesday to discuss the progress of their investigation.
