HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Fifteen churches in Hattiesburg are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help several families become homeowners.

On September 25 through 27, Hattiesburg Habitat for Humanity members plan to change the face of Edwards Street in south Hattiesburg.

Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Andrea Dixon said they are planning to build a community called Celeste Place.

"We are so excited," said Dixon. "I can't tell you how much love has gone into this project. We have a vigorous selection over the last year-and-a-half, and we have six of the 10 families already chosen, five of which are ready to work on their hours to get in their first houses."

Dixon said what makes this upcoming subdivision so special is how the city of Hattiesburg and local churches are partnering to make a family's dream a reality.

"Our Catholic churches are parterning with First Baptist Church to do one house. We got West Point Baptist Church doing one house. We got Temple Baptist Church doing one house, and the United Methodist Churches are coming together to do two house."

Dixon said the church is made up of the community, and a community is helping make Celeste a sub-division families can call home.

Dixon added, "The churches are raising their own funds to sponsor each of these houses. They are working with there congregation, the businesses within their congregations to raise those dollars. And they are actually providing the labor as well, so that weekend you will see multiply members from those churches out here actually building with supervision of our staff and local contractors. "

If all goes as planned, five families will have a place to call their own.
