BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) - Jeff Davis county authorities have now charged two people in connection with the murders of an elderly couple.
Michael Bernard Henry and Alicia Rene Funchess now face murder and grand larceny charges in the deaths of 74-year-old Edward Redd and his 70-year-old wife Cheriene.
The elderly couple was found dead in their home April 18. Their missing car was found days later burning in Jackson County.
It is believed Funchess and Henry's car broke down near the Redd's home, and they were going to take the couple's car when a struggle ensued.
Sources said Funchess grew up near where the Redd's lived, but had moved to Escatawpa in Jackson County. Henry was allegedly living with her.
Originally, Henry and Funchess were charged with arson, but now the charges have been upgraded.
Funchess will make her initial court appearance Wednesday, and Henry was denied bond at his hearing Friday.
