Local law enforcement training center proposed

Associated Press - May 7, 2009 5:24 AM ET

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies in Alcorn County and Corinth are seeking grant money to operate a training center.

The Corinth Board of Aldermen recently agreed to apply for $305,180 in federal stimulus money to locate a training center at the local campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College.

It would involve a partnership between the junior college, the Corinth Police Department, Alcorn County Sheriff's Department and Farmington Police Department.

Officials say the center would provide ongoing training that otherwise would entail costs for lodging and food. Local departments could also utilize the center for required training that otherwise would require travel to locations as far as the Gulf Coast.

Corinth Police Chief David Lancaster says neighboring law enforcement agencies could use the center.
