SALTILLO, Miss. (AP) - An early morning fire has destroyed St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saltillo.
The Rev. Tom Lalor, pastor of St. Thomas, said he was notified about the fire around 6 a.m. Sunday and when he arrived firefighters were already sifting through the rubble.
The fire was reported by motorists who saw the flames from nearby U.S. Highway 45. Firefighters left the scene at 9:40 a.m.
The small church usually attracted 65-70 people to its Saturday night Mass.
Lalor said it will be up to the parish and the Diocese of Jackson to decide whether the church will be rebuilt.
Officials have not released the cause of the fire, but arson is not suspected.
