MT. OLIVE, MS (WDAM) - A $40 million project to improve Highway 49 from Mt. Olive to the Forrest County line will take a few more months to complete.
Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King said rainy weather has caused delays in that project, pushing back the original completion date several months, from May of this year to the end of 2019.
Crews are adding a shoulder to the southbound lane of the highway and are making other improvements.
“The weather has been a problem for the job and the contractor, but other than that, it’s going real well,” King said. “But, I think it’s going to be extended probably on to the end of the year before it’s really through and inspected and everything is complete.” he said.
The project involves a 32-mile portion of the highway.
